YouTube Adsthat convert.

YouTube isn't a billboard anymore. Video Action Campaigns and Performance Max Video turn watch time into purchases — if your first five seconds earn the rest. We script, shoot, edit, and ship YouTube video that moves CPA, not just impressions.

The thesis · 01

The first five seconds are the ad.

Most YouTube Ads die in the skip-button window. A 30-second spot that takes 12 seconds to say something has already paid Google for a bounce. The accounts that win build every cut around one question: why would someone not skip this?

The old YouTube playbook was brand awareness — wide reach, soft metrics, billboard thinking. The new one is direct response. Video Action Campaigns, Performance Max Video, and Shorts ads bid against conversions, not impressions. If you're still measuring on views, you're measuring the wrong thing.

We built Creative Scope's YouTube practice around the reality of the current platform: hook fast, cut hard, measure to action.Script + shoot + edit in-house, so we can iterate weekly instead of waiting six weeks for an agency edit.

✕ YouTube isn't right for you if —
  • You can't produce — or commission — new video every 4–6 weeks.
  • Your offer requires 10+ minutes to explain before anyone buys.
  • You need every dollar attributed last-click in a 1-day window.
  • Your budget is below $3k/mo and you need results in week one.

We'll tell you if that's you — and point you somewhere better. We'd rather pass on a fit than chase a logo.

What we run on YouTube · 06 Disciplines

The full stack,
not just the buy.

YouTube Ads are 30% of the work. The other 70% is the video system that feeds them, the tracking that ties views to revenue, and the account structure that lets Google's ML do its job.

01Direct response

Video Action Campaigns

YouTube's answer to performance video. Conversion-bid, auto-placed across In-Stream, In-Feed, and Shorts, and built around the one question that matters: did someone buy?

  • ✓ Conversion-bid from day one
  • ✓ Audience signals, not rigid targeting
  • ✓ 5s hook + sequential cutdowns
  • ✓ CPA / tROAS bidding
KPI: CPA, blended ROAS
02Full-funnel

Performance Max Video

PMax with serious video assets beats PMax with a stock animation every time. We brief asset groups around intent themes, feed them proper video, and protect them from automation creep.

  • ✓ Asset group by theme / persona
  • ✓ Video + image + HTML5 mix
  • ✓ Search theme + audience signals
  • ✓ Placement exclusions dialled
KPI: incremental new-customer ROAS
03Mid funnel

In-Stream (TrueView) & In-Feed

Skippable In-Stream for reach with a floor on attention, In-Feed for intent-led discovery. We run both for warmer audiences — remarketing, CRM, and high-signal custom segments.

  • ✓ Skippable In-Stream TrueView
  • ✓ In-Feed (discovery) video
  • ✓ Remarketing + CRM audiences
  • ✓ Custom intent segments
KPI: VTR, CVR lift
04Vertical

Shorts Ads

YouTube Shorts is now its own ecosystem — and the cheapest premium video placement on the internet. We build 9:16 native Shorts ads with thumb-stopping first frames, not cropped horizontals.

  • ✓ Native 9:16 vertical
  • ✓ Sound-on, captioned
  • ✓ Hook in first frame
  • ✓ Loop-aware editing
KPI: CPV, CPA on Shorts
05Creative system

Video production in-house

Script, shoot, and edit under one roof. Every hero shoot produces a 30s, a 15s, a 6s bumper, and 2–3 Shorts cutdowns — a full creative matrix from a single production day.

  • ✓ Scripted hook variants
  • ✓ 30s / 15s / 6s cutdowns
  • ✓ Vertical Shorts exports
  • ✓ Weekly iteration briefs
Output: 6+ variants / shoot

GA4 + conversion linking

Google Ads + GA4 properly linked, Enhanced Conversions enabled, view-through windows tuned. Server-side tagging where it matters. If YouTube can't see the purchase, it can't bid for it.

  • ✓ GA4 + Google Ads linking
  • ✓ Enhanced Conversions
  • ✓ View-through attribution tuning
  • ✓ Server-side GTM where needed

Cut for the platform,

Every YouTube format has its own physics — skip window, sound expectation, thumbnail weight, aspect ratio. We script, shoot, and edit against each one, then run them in the account structure that matches how the placement actually buys.

9:16Shorts

Shorts ads

Vertical, sound-on, loop-aware. First frame is the ad — we cut the hook at 0.5s, not 3. Shorts ad inventory prices well below In-Stream and often out-converts it on CPA.

  • 9:16 · 1080×1920
  • 6–15s runtime
  • Captions burned-in
  • First-frame hook
5s hook.Or they're gone.
4:5In-Feed

In-Feed discovery

Thumbnail + headline earns the click, the video earns the conversion. Built for intent-led browsing — search results, related videos, home feed. Strong thumbnail is non-negotiable.

  • Thumbnail 1280×720
  • 15–60s runtime
  • Click-to-play
  • Title as the hook
1:1In-Stream (TrueView)

Skippable In-Stream

The 5-second skip button is the filter. We open on the payoff, never the setup — earn the remaining 25 seconds, then re-pitch at the mid and close. Sequential, not repetitive.

  • 16:9 · 1920×1080
  • 15s / 30s / 60s
  • Skip-aware structure
  • Companion banner
4:5Bumper / Masthead

Bumpers (6s) & PMax Video

6-second bumpers are surgical — one claim, one proof, one CTA. Paired with PMax Video asset groups, they compound brand search while VAC handles the conversion workload.

  • 6s non-skippable
  • Single claim
  • Sound + caption aware
  • PMax asset-group ready

Every agency pulls out one account and one week to show you a 9x VAC screenshot. Here's what YouTube actually costs, sorted by what you sell — so you can build a plan that isn't based on theatre. CPV is the per-view column, not CTR.

Common misconceptions · 06

Things people keep saying
that aren't true.

Bad information travels fast in performance video. Here's what we actually see, running YouTube spend every week.

01
Claim

"YouTube is only for awareness."

Reality

That was true when TrueView-for-reach was the only buy. Video Action Campaigns and Performance Max Video bid on conversions, not views. We run YouTube as a direct-response channel — CPA and ROAS are the scoreboard, not brand lift.

02
Claim

"You need a $50k/month budget for YouTube to work."

Reality

Not true. We run profitable VAC accounts at $3–5k/mo. The real floor isn't budget — it's creative volume. A $5k budget with four well-cut videos will out-earn a $25k budget with one stock animation every time.

03
Claim

"We don't have time to produce video."

Reality

You probably already do — you're just not repurposing it. One 30-minute podcast or webinar yields 3–4 hooks, 6 Shorts cutdowns, and enough b-roll for a month. We extract and edit it; you don't shoot anything new.

04
Claim

"Shorts ads are too new to spend on."

Reality

Shorts is now one of the largest premium video surfaces on the internet, with ad inventory that's priced below In-Stream. The accounts waiting for Shorts to 'prove itself' are paying CPVs today that they'll miss in six months.

05
Claim

"Long-form videos always outperform short."

Reality

Depends on the placement. 30s tends to win on In-Stream for considered purchases, 15s on Shorts, 6s for bumpers and frequency. One length is a liability — we ship cutdowns so the same hero shoot covers every surface.

06
Claim

"Performance Max Video is a black box."

Reality

It's more transparent than people admit — if you know where to look. Asset-level scoring, placement reports, and search-term exclusions all exist. What people mean by 'black box' is usually 'we haven't built proper asset groups.'

FAQ · The honest answers

What people
actually ask.

Different audience surface, different intent, different physics. YouTube viewers arrive with a search or watch-next intent — so hooks can be a beat longer and claims can be more considered. Meta and TikTok are pure interrupt, where the first frame has to earn the second. We run all three differently, never as copy-paste cutdowns.
